Haryana to Set up New Nursing Schools in Six Districts

Haryana government plans to set up new General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) Nursing Schools in six district hospitals.

Also, with a view to strengthening district hospitals, 285 new posts of doctors have been created under the upgraded norms. For the first time, 111 vehicles have been provided to all Community Health Centres for better implementation and supervision of health programmes, says the Economic Survey of Haryana for 2011.

It says under a new programme of Non-Communicable Diseases of Central government which aims at prevention and control of diseases like diabetes, cancer, hypertension and stroke, over one lakh persons have been tested for sugar and blood pressure in Mewat district.

Three more districts--Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Ambala--are being taken up under this programme.

The persistent efforts made by the Haryana government to improve health indicators of the people of the state have begun to bear fruits.

Besides, overall improvement in healthcare facilities, institutional deliveries have increased to 77.2 per cent, the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has come down from 51 to 48, and the number of patients visiting state health units, has gone up by 32 per cent over 2008.
